< Back - Plusnet Newsletter Issue 18

Welcome to the latest edition of Plus, the PlusNet newsletter.

Whilst the last few weeks have started to show signs that Summer may be just around the corner, plenty of people will be spending the next few weeks (or longer) glued to their games console. Over 600,000 people, or 1% of the entire UK population, rushed out to buy Grand Theft Auto 4 the day it was released. Are we going to see an increase in online gaming traffic? Only time will tell…

1. PlusNet plans for 08/09

Every year we announce our plans for the next 12 months. The plans let you all know what you can expect to see from us over the coming months. We'll also make sure we publish an update to the plans so you can see how we get on.

You can now have a look at our plans for the next 12 months over on the Community site. We’ve got loads of improvements in store for you including improved customer support, higher speeds and new safety and security tools.

There's also a brief review of the past year so you can see exactly what's been going on here at PlusNet.

Let us know what you think of the plans by leaving your comments and questions on the blog.

2. New Broadband Your Way usage allowances

The first big improvement of 2008/09 is already here. Last week we upped the usage allowances on 3 of our residential products to give you more for your money. These changes came into effect on the 1st of May and existing customers on the updated packages had their usage allowances automatically increased.

To summarise the changes, Broadband Your Way Option 2 usage has increased from 8GB to 15GB, Option 3 from 20GB to 30GB and Broadband Your Way Pro from 10GB to 15GB. The prices of all the products remain the same and free usage still applies between Midnight and 8am.

Full details can be found over on our Community site announcement.

3. Safe surfing Trial

Internet security is a topic which is rarely out of the news. There are plenty of things that you can do to protect your computer, from Anti-virus and Spyware programs to spam protection measures and other security tools.

We've been looking at ways that we can help protect our customers and offer additional security features. We are currently looking for customers who would like to trial a new solution called Safe Surf. The system works with your connection by helping to prevent Spyware, Trojans, viruses, Phishing attacks, and more.

It also provides you with parental control settings to block access to certain websites and protect younger family members from exposure to unsuitable material.

If you'd like more details about this service, or would like to signup to the trial have a read of this blog on the Community site.

4. The Community site is 1!

April saw the first birthday of our Community site. Since we created the site our community has been growing and growing. We now have over 8450 registered users and more content than ever before is appearing on the site. We have regular bloggers from across the business who all share information and news through the Community site.

We've got plenty lined up over the next few months to make the Community site even more popular. We're looking forward to the PlusNet Usergroup working closely with the Community to make sure that we are delivering exactly what you all want. We'll also be giving you the chance to create support content to be used on the site.

Have a look at this blog for more information – we've even included a snapshot of the original Community site concept.

5. Satisfaction continues to improve

Every person who calls our support team from a phone number registered on their account is sent a link to complete our customer satisfaction survey. In last month’s newsletter we reported a new high with 67.1% of respondents either 'very' or 'extremely' satisfied.

I'm delighted to announce that the latest figures show that we’ve continued to improve – In the latest review 72.5% of people were either 'very' or 'extremely' satisfied.

The number of people who claimed to be dissatisfied with the service was 5.9%. Again, this is a new low score and we'll be doing our best to make sure we drive it down even further over the coming weeks and months.

You can read more about the customer satisfaction survey on this blog.

6. What's happening in the Tech world?

One of the great things about working in this industry is that there are always loads of exciting new ideas flying around. Whether it's a cool new website or a revolutionary gadget, there's usually someone here in the office who's getting all excited. There's often so much going on in the technology industry that it's hard to keep up!

To make it easier for you to keep up to speed with what's happening we've started to publish weekly updates of the latest news from the technology and Internet industry.

So, if you like to keep your finger on the tech pulse, keep an eye out for our updates and help contribute to some interesting debate and discussion.

7. Other news

Also over the past few weeks:

We've teamed up with Imagine Publishing to offer 5 of you the chance to win a year's subscription to Total PC Gaming magazine. To find out more about this next generation PC games mag and how to enter the competition have a look at this blog.

Team PlusNet managed to complete Theo's 10k run and raised over £1200 for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity. You can see some pictures from the day (and find out who won) on this blog.

We also held another PlusNet open day which allowed some of you to come and see us at work. Have a read of this End of Day blog written by one of the customers who attended to find out what happened.

There's also been some 'debating' about which websites people really need. Not surprisingly, this led to some distinct differences in opinion. Have a look at the blog and let us know which websites you couldn't live without.

If you haven't already done so, register your new Community site username and you can join in with the latest debates and conversation on the Community site forums.
