Before an email gets anywhere near your inbox it'll be scanned by IronPort.
If an email is sent from a mailserver with a bad SenderBase reputation then it'll be rejected and bounced back to the sender. Email that passes this first check is scanned and given a spam rating. What happens next depends on the settings you choose on the Spam tab in Manage My Mail.
Here we'll talk about an advanced option, Discarding Obvious Spam:
1. Discard Obvious Spam
This is an extra layer of filtering. If switched on, emails with a spam rating above a certain threshold will be deleted. This is not the same as rejecting an email - the message will not be bounced back to the sender.
The threshold is set at a high level so only obvious spam should be deleted. If you suspect that legitimate email is being deleted by our anti-spam filters, then you should either switch this option off or add the address of the sender to your 'approved senders' list.
